Gary A. Edwards Entertainment Blog 12/25/18 Merry Christmas– Happy New Year - Mildred Bailey Tribute update– The Kominsky Method Series Review – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Review

Merry Christmas to everyone and their families. One of the highlights of 2018 was producing and directing the Mildred Bailey Show at the Coeur d’Alene Casino in November. Another highlight is preparing for Eastern Washington University School of music performing excerpts from my Qualchan Opera on April 5th. I also got a call a couple of Saturdays ago that a bass player had broken his leg so I went to the Spokane Civic Theater that evening and sight read the show Elf and had a great time.

Hopes for a Better New Year- Our family suffered many losses of family and friends in 2018 including my wife’s sister, Callie Cleveland on May 1st and our grandson, Ryan Rigney in a hunting accident on November 11th. Here’s hoping for a better 2019.

Mildred Bailey Tribute update- Mildred Bailey’s niece says she owns Mildred Bailey’s “intellectual property rights” and denied permission for me to do the show, so I cancelled this project. At my age, I just want to have fun and not get involved in any litigation hassles. My apologies to all you fans out there who are disappointed.

The Kominsky Method Series Review – We binged watched this show on Netflix or Amazon and enjoyed it very much. The series stars Michael Douglas and Allen Larkin and is about the vicissitudes of the two guys coping with old age. Michael Douglas plays the part of an old guy who teaches acting privately to adults and his weird love life. Allen Arkin plays the part of his best friend and elderly agent who just lost his wife and has to cope with being a widower. Very funny.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Review – We also binge watched this series about a young Jewish housewife who is searching for success as a stand-up comedienne and the struggles of trying to juggle family, friends and a life with being a stand-up comic on the road and the resulting stress. She has also hooked up with a dysfunctional, inexperienced but earnest manager of indistinct gender who books her into various dives on her road to stardom.
